What Are Iconic Logos And How To Create One

The first thing you see while searching for any organization or app is their logo. An iconic logo is the representation of the company designed in the form of some symbolic shape which makes your company easily recognizable.

Julia - communications officer @ Vectr got challenged this time with this tutorial to showcase you how to create iconic logos 😉

A perfect logo should be absolutely simple but elegant and bold at the same time! As I created the iconic logo for the first time in this tutorial, I can claim that designing a logo is a tremendously difficult part of work which takes hours and sometimes days 😓

However, there is no need to worry, you can create a cool logo considering the following recommendations:

1. Make it closely connected to the main idea of your company/business.
2. Try to make your design recognizable using your own ideas and not copying someone else’s work.
3. Incorporate just one thing that will make your logo unique.

Let’s now have a look at some timeless logos for gaining inspiration before creating our own design 😉 After watching the pictures with logos, you will see that all the great things are simple!

It’s high time to design a logo! We decided to create our own iconic logo for the flower shop mentioned in the previous tutorial on making flyers.

Step 1

Let’s start making the circle for the main part of our flower where the text will be placed. For that, use the Ellipse shape which you may find in the left toolbar. If you want to create a perfect circle you should hold the ⇧ shift key and draw the ellipse at the same time. (Though it is not really important – asymmetry is fashionable now 😉). You can also change the color of the circle using the palette where you can find a color for any taste which is placed in the Background section in the right toolbar.

Step 2

As we are creating the logo for a flower shop, to our mind, it is necessary to put the name to be recognized among others. So the next step is creating the background for the text. That may be done with the help of the Rounded Rectangle shape which also may be found in the left toolbar. Pay your attention to the fact that it is not obligatory to use a shape as it is. In order to make it suitable for our design, we resize it moving its anchor points.

Step 3

The most difficult step in the design is to create a petal. We use the Pen tool for that. Note please that you can begin resizing or rotating the points using the control handles when you select more than one point. Also by putting the cursor on points, you can create rounded corners using the curved arrow which appears above.

Step 4

There is no need to create a new petal each time, you can copy your object by using Ctrl+C on Windows or Command+C on Mac. To paste it, press Ctrl+V or Command+V. To design a beautiful flower you have to rotate its petals. In order to do that, hover just outside a control point until the rotating handle appears, then click and drag. Selections are rotated by 15° intervals, but you can rotate freely by holding the ⇧ shift key while you drag.

Step 5

In order to add the name of the shop, we use the Text Text tooltool. In order to “decorate” the text, use all the features available for it: change its color and size, use elegant and exquisite font, add shadow or do whatever you want (using the right toolbar) to impress your audience.

Step 6

The Export button will help you to download your logo. But there is only one important moment: if you want your logo to have a transparent background, save it to PNG or SVG.
